A lot of people worldwide suffer from insomnia, sleep apnea, sleep disturbances, and night terrors. In fact, sleep apnea happen when your breathing is interrupted during your sleeping process, meaning that your brain and the body are not provided with enough oxygen. There exist 2 types of sleep apnea:
- Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a blockage of the airway which occurs when the back of the soft tissue in the throat collapses while sleep.
- Central sleep apnea is the second type – in this sleep disorder, there is no blockage of the airway, but the brain still does not signal the muscles to breathe, as a result of the instability in respiratory center.
Regardless of their age, sleep apnea can affect everyone. It can occur as a result of the following factors: gastroesophageal reflux, large neck size, a family genetics of sleep apnea, being older than 40 years, being male, being overweight, having nasal obstructions because of sinuses or allergies, and etc.
