Acording to a survey, eight weeks of meditation is enough to notice changes in several areas of the brain associated with a feeling of peace and improving awareness of self, empathy and improved memory. Meditation sharpens the brain and provides benefits for its overall function. Old talk that staring at the navel makes us passive and “too humble” will stop once and for all.

Latest research, on the capacity of working memory, is associated with the effects of exercising cognitive meditation. Studies say that the impact of the two-week training in cognitive meditation, for a period of only 10 minutes a day, showed improvement of the working memory. Training in cognitive meditation guide means directing the physical or sensory stimulus, such as breathing or eating. It can be exercised on a daily basis. This study examined the effects of cognitive meditation in students, as well as their achievements on tests of working memory and comprehension in reading. Mental distraction, or the tendency to relax our focus and “let it fly” out of thoughts that are not focused on solving problems, negatively affects the performance of a series of tests such as those for working memory and intelligence. The more improved working memory in students, the higher his achievement tests in reading for understanding are. In the particular research there were 48 students involved, half of which were susceptible on training for healthy diet and lead daily food diary for two weeks, while the other half were susceptible on cognitive training in meditation. A comparison of the achievements of students on tests of mental distraction, capacity of working memory and comprehension in reading before and after intervention research showed that students who were in the group that has undergone training in meditation had lower cognitive scores of mental distraction and better achievements on tests of working memory and comprehension in reading, while the group who had undergone training in diet did not had a significant change in the results of testing. Daily exercise of cognitive meditation, lasting about 40 minutes, improves directed attention on specific cognitive tasks.
