Does My Vagina Smell Healthy? 5 Common Vaginal Odors, Explained

Does-My-Vagina-Smell-Healthy-5-Common-Vaginal-Odors-Explained

There is a very common misconception mostly going around men that a healthy vagina needs to be scent-free, but in reality, every vagina has a distinctive smell that varies from woman to woman.

This scent is a mix of the food you consume, your degree of hygiene, the way you sweat and the beneficial bacteria that flourish in the vagina.

Aside from that, using different soaps with different scents and properties can actually undermine your natural pH balances.

And although the vaginal scents don’t smell like aromas, an unusual smell can signify many things, from a lost tampon to a vaginal disease.

Down below are five different vaginal scents and each one indicates a different condition in the body. If you notice any of these, it is highly advised that you consult with a gynaecologist and take care before the problem turns serious.

  1. Fishy smell

The fishy smell is often a result of an illness resulting from an imbalance of bacteria in the vagina – a common curable STI. It is either this, or trichomoniasis, that give off the fishy smell often followed by a grey or white discharge.

  1. Metallic smell

The metallic smell is one of the most common smells following an interior ejaculation or period end. The smell is often short-term but if it continues, you should see a doctor just to be sure.

  1. Yeasty / Bread scent

If there is one thing with yeast infections, is that they don’t give off any scent, but instead a mild bread-like odor which can help you to tell a yeast infection from a bacterial infection. If it is a yeast infection, it will be accompanied by other symptoms such as itchiness or a thick white discharge.

  1. Musky odor

If you notice that your vaginal odor is turning musky, this might mean that you’ve been wearing tight panties or trousers, making little breathing room for the organ that has been sweating a lot. If you experience this, use light soap for intimate hygiene and wear some loose fitting clothing from time to time.

  1. Rotten smell

A rotten vaginal odor requires an immediate medical attention as it might indicate that a tampon has been lost. Although people don’t want to admit it, this happens very frequently. A lost tampon will stay in your vagina until it is removed, which means that it will be stuck there.

Although we mentioned only five scents, there are many variables which can alter the scent of your lady parts. This is why maintaining a healthy and clean vagina is highly important, plus it is simple. With some mild soap and warm water, the cozy hygiene will be maintained well enough.
