Warm Water vs. Cold Water – Which Damages the Health


All of us want to start the day with hot coffee or cold water. But, we are not quite sure which one of them is better for your health, whether the warm or cold beverage? Numerous studies proved that drinking warm water on an empty stomach before breakfast is the best way to start your day.

Warm water will eliminate pain and treat throat swelling. At the same time, it will soothe dryness and irritation within it. It’s great for those days when you wake up and you cannot swallow and your throat is dry.

Only one glass of warm water before a meal improve the bowel movement and colon. It prepares the body for better absorption of the foods it will consume throughout the day.

Warm water improves blood flow and increases the blood cell formation. At the same time, it increases the warmth within your body.

Warm water is vital for weight loss. In a study published in the Journal of Biology, Natural Science, and Medicine it was shown that overweight women who consumed warm water, lost great amount of weight, and reduced BMI and appetite.

Why is cold water not recommended for drinking?

There is no doubt that a glass of cold water in hot summer days is the best feeling. However, although it cools you off for a short period of time, it has a few side effects:

  • Cold water reduce hydration and constricts blood vessels
  • Because of the fact that cold water solidifies fats in blood, it’s harder for the body to digest foods
  • You waste your energy to heat yourself
  • Provokes congestion, excess mucus in respiratory tract, and risks of infections in the throat.
